The MOVE Method™: A Better Way to Relieve Arthritis Pain Naturally
The MOVE Method™: A Better Way to Relieve Arthritis Pain Naturally

By Dr Javier Rios MD | Houston’s Nonsurgical Orthopedic & Sports MD

If arthritis pain is making it harder to walk, exercise, sleep, or enjoy time with your family, you are not alone.

One of the biggest myths I hear from patients is:

“I should stop moving because I’m damaging my joints.”

In reality, the right movement and the right mindset often help joints feel better, not worse.

That’s why I created The MOVE Method™, a simple, patient-friendly system designed to help reduce arthritis pain naturally and protect your joints long term.

M = Motion & Muscle Is Medicine

Movement helps lubricate joints and reduce stiffness.

When you move, your body circulates synovial fluid through the joint, which helps nourish cartilage and improve comfort.

Even more important, strong muscles act like shock absorbers.

For example, stronger quadriceps and glute muscles help reduce stress on arthritic knees.

Walking, biking, resistance bands, and strength training can all be excellent options.

The goal is simple:

Motion is Medicine.

O = Optimize Inflammation

Inflammation plays a major role in arthritis pain.

One of the best ways to help control this is through an anti-inflammatory lifestyle.

Focus on:

  • lean protein
  • vegetables
  • berries
  • healthy fats
  • olive oil
  • nuts
  • omega-3 rich foods

Try to limit processed foods and excess sugar, which can worsen inflammation and joint discomfort.

V = Vital Hydration

Hydration is often overlooked.

Many people notice more stiffness and soreness when they aren’t drinking enough water.

Water helps support:

  • muscle function
  • tissue recovery
  • joint lubrication
  • overall mobility

Hydration is medicine for movement.

E = Empower Your Joints & Your Mindset

This is where many patients make the biggest breakthrough.

Pain does not always mean damage.

Arthritis can create fear of movement, which often leads to less activity, muscle loss, and more pain.

This cycle can look like:

pain → fear → less movement → weakness → worse pain

The key is learning to move with confidence, not fear.

At the same time, empowering your joints means building muscle through high-quality protein, resistance training, and smart recovery strategies.

A pain-free mindset combined with stronger muscles can dramatically improve your quality of life.

The Bottom Line

Arthritis does not mean giving up movement.

In many cases, movement is the medicine.

The MOVE Method is designed to help you:

  • move better
  • reduce pain
  • build strength
  • improve confidence
  • stay active
  • avoid surgery whenever possible

If joint pain is limiting your lifestyle, schedule an evaluation with Dr Javier Rios MD, Houston’s Nonsurgical Orthopedic & Sports MD.
